There are two totally awesome things about our area in particular: Wine and wind. So what do you do when one of those basically shuts off after Labor Day? Find a way to still enjoy the river. And that's exactly what Emma Rose Rossof and boyfriend Nick Stewart did last weekend. They combined wine with a water adventure.
They decided to stand up paddle board from Rufus to Hood River, which would take three days and involved camping along the river for 2 nights. Before they launched their journey Emma Rose told
rediviva about her trip and mentioned she was bringing along a bottle of wine called Hang Time Rose. She explained that the owners of
Naked Winery, David and Jody Barringer, and Dave Michaelec, encouraged two of their awesome employees to start up
Outdoor Wino. Emma went on to describe Kelly Medler and Emily Knutson as "two Hood River hotties, rippin' sports chicks who love to play, and love to drink yummy wine." That's why they created Outdoor Wino, which has
Hang Time Rose,
Huckin' Good (red), with more to come in the lineup.
Besides the sports marketing, the cool thing about this bottle of wine is it's plastic. You can drop it, it can handle getting banged around in your backpack and it's lighter in weight. Emma Rose mentioned that they ended up playing toss and catch with it for fun, because they knew it would never break, even after hitting that rock.
When asked how it tasted Emma who appearantly has no lack of experience describing wine said "The wine was delicious: It was nicely chilled, which took about 45 minutes in the river. It was light, fruity, slightly sweet. Aromas of cherry, strawberry, a little bit of herbs and fresh cut grass. Flavor profile of tart cherry, ripe strawberry, with balanced acidity and nice, smooth finish." Asked if she would recommend she said yes and wished for this 3 day/2 night trip she brought two bottles, one for each night.
Hang Time Rose is available at Naked Winery for $15.
